Student Success

At BCA Music, we celebrate student success in ways that go beyond trophies, certificates, or accelerated advancement. While achievements like winning a competition, excelling in exams, or progressing quickly are indeed notable and can be exciting, the successes we cherish the most often lie in moments of personal growth, joy, and connection through music.

Take Ethan, for instance (featured in the photo on the side). He is a competitive pianist who has won awards at both local and provincial levels at a tender age.

One day, he gathered his parents, arranging chairs to create a mini-audience so he could perform a piece he’d learned. His mother captured the moment, sharing with us how proud he was to play for his family. It wasn’t about playing perfectly or performing on a big stage—it was about sharing his music in a way that brought his family closer together. Moments like these show us how music becomes a part of students’ lives and identity, sparking creativity, confidence, and a sense of connection.

Then there’s Rachael, who, after hearing an older student play a challenging piece, set her sights on learning it herself. Although she was only 5 at the time, it became her long-term goal, something she was determined to achieve with patience and practice. When she finally mastered the piece at the age of 10, it wasn’t just about the notes on the page; it was about realizing her own potential and discovering the rewards of dedication and persistence.

These are the stories that inspire us and reflect our vision for music education. We believe music shapes more than just skill—it shapes character, resilience, and the joy of shared experiences. Our mission is to provide every student with this kind of growth, where they feel seen, motivated, and empowered by their own journey in music.

FAQS

What age groups do your early childhood music programs serve?

Our early childhood music programs are designed for children from age 2 to 6. We use engaging, play-based activities to nurture young children’s love for music, introducing rhythm, melody, and movement through fun, age-appropriate exercises.

What instrument do you offer for private lessons?

We offer private lessons primarily in  piano, violin, cello, and voice. Our skilled instructors are dedicated to guiding students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players, with personalized lesson plans.

How do I know my child is ready for lessons?

If your child shows interest in a specific instrument, can focus for 20-30 minutes, and is curious about learning music, they are likely ready to start private lessons! Our team is happy to discuss your child’s readiness and suggest the best fit for their age and level.

Do you offer group classes for beginners?

Yes, we offer group classes for beginners, which provide a supportive environment for students to explore music basics and learn alongside peers. Group classes are also a great complement to private lesson, so students get both social and individualized learning.

What is Chamber Music and who can join the program?

Chamber music is a small ensemble experience where students collaborate to play music together, such as in duets, trios, or quartets. It’s a wonderful opportunity for junior, intermediate to advanced students to develop listening skills, teamwork, and musical expression. Placement is based on experience level and instrument availability. Chamber music program is designed for students who are currently taking private lessons, either at BCA or privately with their own teachers.

Can my child join the choir even though s/he has no prior experience in singing?

Absolutely! Our children’s choir welcomes students with all levels of experience. Choir members work on vocal technique, ensemble singing, and ear training in a fun, encouraging atmosphere. We aim to foster a love for singing and the joy of performing as a group.

How can I register my child for a program/class?

You can register through our website by selecting the program you’re interested in, or by contacting our office at music@artsonbayview.com. Our team is also available to help you choose the best program for your child’s interests and goals.

What performance opportunities do you provide?

Students have several opportunities to showcase their progress, including recitals, end-of-term performances, and special events such as masterclass. Our choir and chamber music ensembles also perform at community events, providing students with enriching performance experiences.

Do you offer trial classes?

Yes, we offer trial classes for select early childhood music and group classes so you and your child can experience the program before committing at no charge. Trial lessons for private lessons are charged as a regular lesson. Please contact music@artsonbayview.com for more details on scheduling a trial class.

Can parents observe their child(ren)'s lessons/classes?

Children behave differently in the presence of their parents, so in the interest of allowing the space for students to be on their best learning mode, we typically ask parents to wait outside the classroom. However, parents should know how their child is doing and what goes on in the class, so teachers can invite parents time to time to observe their young child’s lessons.

What is your policy of make-up lessons?

Regular attendance is important for consistent progress. We offer limited make-up lessons for private students with advance notice, while group classes and choirs do not generally offer make-ups. Please refer to our studio policy for specific details, or contact music@artsonbayview.com if you have questions.
